Summerfest slated July 3 in Coffeeville
By Kathryn F. Pickard

Coffeeville's Summerfest celebration last year and fireworks show for the Fourth of July was such a big success that it is being planned again. This year's Summerfest will be held Tuesday, July 3 beginning at 3 p.m. on the grounds of Coffeeville High School.

The Coffeeville Town Council discussed details of the day's events during the June 5 meeting.

There will be games for children, including a water slide and a variety of booths and entertainment. The fireworks show will begin that night.

A celebration for the town's bicentennial next year was also discussed.

Library

The library board has met twice and established rules for the library.

Shelves will be installed this week for the books.

The library board is requesting volunteers and for donations of books and furnishings in good condition.

Other business

Council members adopted a resolution to secure a generator for the water tank.

Henry Dunagan, Brenda Moody and Peggy Hicks Armistead were nominated to the Board of Equalization.

A work session is scheduled for Sept. 17 to discuss the new business license laws.

Mayor Faye Cotten told council members she would be going to Washington, D.C. next month to attend the El Camino East- West Corridor Commission annual meeting. The organization promotes the four-laning and other improvements of Highway 84.

Council members discussed the possibility of finding grants to have sidewalks built.
