Help for low-income families with electric bills

The Community Action Agency of Baldwin, Escambia, Clarke, Monroe and Conecuh Counties will be accepting applications starting June 1, to assist low-income families with their electricity bill. The program extends through the summer months assisting households with an allotment by the Federal Government.

To be eligible, a household must furnish proof of combined income, before deductions, of all household members for the entire month, prior to the month they apply for assistance. Social Security card, date of birth and age of each household member should be provided. The head of household should make the application.

Monthly income cannot be in excess of the following: one person, $1,225; two people, $1,650; three people, $2,075; four people, $2,500. Add $425 per month for each additional household member thereafter to determine eligibility.

Payment will be made directly to the utility company that supplies the electricity and no payments will be made to the household.

Funds are limited and are available on a first-come, firstserve basis. The number of applications taken daily is also limited due to the application process and the availability of funds. Special arrangements may be made for the elderly and physically challenged. Deposits and reconnect fees may be limited.

For further information or an appointment, you may contact your local Community Action Agency Office. In Clarke County you can call 251-275- 8498.
