Woodard

John Henry Woodard, a Washington County resident, died at the Washington County Infirmary of Chatom on June 6, 2006 at the age of 82. He was a

World War II veteran in the U.S. Army

where he received

the Medal of Honor. Mr. Woodard was a member of the Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church of Chatom where he served as chairman of the trustee board and the outreach ministry.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Dixon Woodard of Chatom; three daughters, Delois Johnson and Juanita Wimbley, both of Chatom and Janet Woodard of Enterprise; one son, the Rev. Willie (Helen) Woodard of Jackson; brother, Ned (Sallie) Woodard of Satsuma; and mother-in-law, Mittie Dixon of Stateline, Miss.

Services were held June 8 from the Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church. Interment was in the Hill Crest Cemetery of Chatom with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson directing.
