Tombigbee Region added to Alabama Rural Action Commission
      Gerald Dial, executive director of the Alabama Rural Action Commission, announced the addition of the Tombigbee Region to the Alabama Rural Action Commission (ARAC). The region will consist of Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Dallas, Marengo, Monroe, Perry, Sumter, Washington and Wilcox counties.

Satellite work blamed for fire
      Naomi Taite told Grove Hill firefighters that a satellite TV installer drill holes through the walls of her brick home to install a satellite dish last Thursday and apparently struck an electrical wire, causing a shortage and small fire.

Acceptance Loan looking into car loan 'irregularities' at unidentified branch
      Thomasville-based United Security Bancshares has acknowledged that it is looking into irregularities of loan fraud in its subsidiary, Acceptance Loan Co., and has launched an internal investigation. The fraud reportedly totals at least $3.8 million.

Rain welcomed in a dry land
      Grove Hill and much of Clarke County received much-needed rain Tuesday. Individual rain gauges in Grove Hill recorded as much as four and five inches Tuesday. The downpours were extremely heavy at times, as indicated by the photos.
