Woodard awarded Industry Alliance scholarship

Alabama Southern Community College and Weyer- haeuser Company recently announced Ms. Cheryl Woodard, 1986 graduate of Washington County High School and the daughter of Franklin and Bettie Johnson, as the 2007 scholarship recipient for the Alabama Southern Industry Alliance for a Technologically Advanced Workforce.

The 2007 Alliance companies include Boise, Alabama River Pulp, Temple Inland, Weyerhaeuser, Olin Chemical, Rock Tenn, Gulf States and Louisiana Pacific.

Alabama Southern Community College's Industry Alliance for a Technologically Advanced Workforce was selected as one of the top ten national Bellwether Finalists for the prestigious 2006 Bellwether Award for Workforce Development by the Community College Futures Assembly.

This Scholarships-Internships- Jobs partnership was pioneered in 1995 between Alabama Southern and CIBA Specialty Chemicals. Since then, the American Chemical Society has described the partnership as a "workforce development model for the nation."

The National Science Foundation

has described it as a "national model for technical training"

and awarded Alabama Southern a $5 million grant as the National Center for Pulp and Paper Technology Training to promote similar partnerships nationwide.
