GH all-stars face elimination game

Edward Skipper beat out an infield hit against Monroeville Monday night.
The Grove Hill Dixie Youth Coach Pitch all-stars suffered their first loss in the post-season Monday night as they lost 9-8 to the all-stars from Monroeville in Sweet Water.

It was Grove Hill's second game in the district tournament. They went through sub-district unbeaten and they beat the same Monroeville team twice in subdistrict.

In the game Monday night Grove Hill held a lead but Monroeville surged ahead in the fifth inning.

Grove Hill scratched across a run in the bottom half of the inning but went down in the final frame to see their first defeat.

Keagan Guthrie, Cameron Gates and Dallas Todd each went 2-for-2. Bryce Lolley went 2-for-3. Tony Lewis, Rashon Horn, Latavian Washington, Heath Helms and Edward Skipper each added a hit.

Last Saturday night Grove Hill opened district play by hammering Chiltauga American 18-4.

Chiltauga is made of all-stars from Chilton and Autauga Counties.

Lolley, Guthrie, Todd and Washington all went 3-for-3 in the win.

Washington had the game's only home run.

Helms and Skipper both went 2-for-2. Lewis, Vann Wilson, Dillon Smith, Reece Powell, Cameron Gates and Trey McConnell all added a hit.

Grove Hill played in an elimination game Tuesday night against host-team Sweet Water, while Monroeville had a bye.

The winner of the Grove Hill- Sweet Water game will have to beat Monroeville twice to claim the district championship.

District is as far as the Coach- Pitch all-stars advance in the baseball tournaments.
