Sonic's location confirmed in Jax

During his comments to the council at Tuesday night's meeting, Jackson Mayor Richard Long said the location of the Sonic restaurant had been approved by the city's planning commission.

The drive-in style fast food eatery will be located at the corner of High Acres and College Avenue between First United Security Bank and Acceptance Loan. It was announced last month that the restaurant would locate to Jackson, but the company had not made a decision as to its exact location at that time.

The mayor said a Sonic spokesperson told him there would be approximately 60-70 new jobs created when the restaurant is opened. The bulk of those positions will be part-time and the number will depend on whether or not the restaurant stays open 24 hours some do in other areas.

Long talked about other projects currently under construction throughout the city.:

*The opening ceremony for the new 50,000 square foot addition to New Era Cap Company will be conducted July 13. The public is invited to attend.

+ Walgreens construction is proceeding and the store should be open by the end of August.

+ The new Jackson Police complex is nearing completion and should be finished by the end of July.

+ The Evergreen Transportation truck terminal construction is progressing and should be complete in August. Councilman Paul South said the city's water board recently approved a $52,000 bore for the company.

Mayor Long also said there have been numerous contacts with housing developers, grocery store chains, restaurants and others interested in the city of Jackson.
