Calendar Music fest at Coffeeville set Coffeeville Music Festival will be held Saturday, July 7 on the property of Dr. Edwina Hart located at 21370 Highway 69 South in Coffeeville. Local singers will be as follows: gospel from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Legendary Taylor Sisters, Martha Daughtrey, Rev. and Mrs. Reginald Morris, Coffeeville's Best Sandy Dunagan and Chaundra Deas, Andre Creighton and Family Unity, Janice Malone and Mt. Zion's Praise Team and many more. There will be a blues concert at 6 p.m. until featuring Steve Perry plus Pat Ramsey and the Blues Disciples. Security will be on duty. There will be food vendors on site. Arts and crafts booths will be available, games and activities for children until 5 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy. ADC monthly meeting set The Alabama Democratic Conference's (ADC) monthly meeting will be Tuesday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at the NAACP building on Carter Street in Grove Hill. Scenes and stories of Monroeville "To Kill A Mockingbird" Teacher Workshop This workshop includes two panels. The first, "Mockingbird Summers - Visits with the Citizens of Monroeville" on Tuesday, July 17 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Museum at 31 North Alabama Avenue in Monroeville includes a slide show designed to enhance the understanding of the classic American novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird," for teachers and readers of the book. Admission is free. In a slide presentation, valuable information is given about the author, Harper Lee, and her hometown of Monroeville. The fictional town of Maycomb with its people, places and events come alive through slides of Monroeville - present day and years past. In addition, you'll hear stories from people who lived here during the time of the book and get much sought after background material to make the "Monroeville- Maycomb connection." The second panel, "Moments of Courage-Against the Odds" centers on specific references to the era of the book. The panelists discuss the education, economic and social life for African-Americans in Monroe County. Don't miss the opportunity to hear the members of this panel and participate in the workshop. Summer reading program Grove Hill Public Library launches its summer reading program. Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to join "Get a Clue @ Your Library" at the Grove Hill Public Library. The 2007 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through 5th grade, with programs, prize drawings. story hours, a reading club, and more. Program dates are July 18, and July 25. Times will be as follows for students completing Pre-K and Kindergarten 12:30-1:30, 1st and 2nd grades 1:45-2:45, and 3rd-5th grades will meet from 3-4. All programs are free of charge. Promise Theatre's play set The Promise Theatre and Performing Arts Center in cooperation with the Grove Hill Arts Council and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will present "Everyman," the musical will be at Clarke County's New Cultural Arts Center, at the Historic Locke Theatre in downtown Jackson Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. A matinee will be held Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. All seats are $10. Small business workshop set The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the "How to Start a Small Business" workshop Tuesday, July 24 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Kimbell House. The chamber has partnered with the Univesity of West Alabama Small Business Development Center to bring workshops to the area and help local citizens who are interested in starting their own business. "If you are currently employed or not and are thinking about starting your own small business, this is an opportunity you will not want to miss," said LaShaunda Holly, executive director, of the chamber. Topics concerning reasons to go into business, purpose and components of a business plan and how to secure funding will be covered. There will be time afterwards for open and oneon one dicussions. Children's Summer art camp The Mobile Museum of Art will hold a weeklong art camp in Grove Hill for children, ages 7- 12 Monday, July 30-Friday, Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. until noon with art instructors from the Mobile Museum of Art to work with oils, watercolors and other art mediums.
