Grove Hill council approves sales tax holiday

The Grove Hill Town Council approved July 2 the Sales Tax Holiday for Aug. 3-5.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday Aug. 3 and ending at midnight on Sunday Aug. 5, Alabama will hold its second annual sales tax holiday giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales or use tax.

In other action from Monday's council meeting, the council approved proposals from Thompson Engineering of Mobile for professional services needed for the proposed Senior Center Project on Jackson Street.

One proposal involves Subsurface Exploration and Geotechnical Assessment ($4,200), and the other proposal includes surveying, a site master plan, grading and drainage plans, water and wastewater plans and construction observation services ($8,100).

The following Building Permit Applications were also approved:

• from Kerry Stephens to construct a 30-foot x 50-foot storage building and fence at 100 Fourth Avenue;

• from Kerry Stephens to construct a 16-foot x 20-foot back porch at 132 Chapman Street;

• from the Grove Hill Public Library to construct the new addition at 108 Dubose Avenue.
