HIV group to meet

The Area HIV Prevention Group will meet

Friday, July 13 at 11 a.m. in the Monroe County Health Department. Anyone interested in preventing the spread of HIV is invited to attend. For more information contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

McIntyre-Rotch reunion

The descendants of John Henry Rotch and Andrew Jackson McIntyre will hold a family reunion Saturday, July 14 at the Steak House in Jackson beginning at 11 a.m. in the private meeting room. Cheerleader Exhibition

There will be a cheerleader exhibition on Sunday, July 15 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Clarke Prep Gym. This will be the send off for the Clarke Prep Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders as they leave to compete at the AISA Cheer Camp at Huntingdon College in Montgomery. Come out and support these girls as they leave for camp!!!

"To Kill A Mockingbird" Teacher Workshop

This workshop includes two panels. The first, "Mockingbird Summers - Visits with the Citizens of Monroeville" on Tuesday, July 17 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Museum at 31 North Alabama Avenue in Monroeville includes a slide show designed to enhance the understanding of the classic American novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird," for teachers and readers of the book. Admission is free. In a slide presentation, valuable information is given about the author, Harper Lee, and her hometown of Monroeville. The fictional town of Maycomb with its people, places and events come alive through slides of Monroeville - present day and years past. In addition, you'll hear stories from people who lived here during the time of the book and get much sought after background material to make the "Monroeville- Maycomb connection." The second panel, "Moments of Courage-Against the Odds" centers on specific references to the era of the book. The panelists discuss the education, economic and social life for African-Americans in Monroe County. Don't miss the opportunity to hear the members of this panel and participate in the workshop. Summer reading program

Grove Hill Public Library launches its summer reading program. Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to join "Get a Clue @ Your Library" at the Grove Hill Public Library. The 2007 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through 5th grade, with programs, prize drawings. story hours, a reading club, and more. Program dates are July 18, and July 25. Times will be as follows for students completing Pre-K and Kindergarten 12:30-1:30, 1st and 2nd grades 1:45-2:45, and 3rd-5th grades will meet from 3-4. All programs are free of charge.

CCSWC District meets

The Clarke County Soil and Water Conservation District will have its board meeting

Wednesday, July 18 at 12:30 p.m. at the USDA office in Jackson. The public is welcome to attend. In conjunction with the board meeting the Conservation District will discuss the 2007 Watershed Assessment.

Promise Theatre's play set The Promise Theatre and Performing Arts Center in cooperation with the Grove Hill Arts Council and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will present "Everyman," the musical will be at Clarke County's New Cultural Arts Center, at the Historic Locke Theatre in downtown Jackson Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. A matinee will be held Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. All seats are $10. The musical play will feature students from Clarke and surrounding counties. For more information call 251-246-2986.

Family reunion set

The Patrick-Jones-Carstarphen Family Reunion will be held Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22 at the Jackson Assembly House. Family reunion planned

The immediate descendants of Tilda Olds- Pugh, the families of Arnita (Pugh) [Clarence] Robinson, Daisy (Pugh) [Jimmy] McCants, Meeta (Pugh) [H.B.] Harris, and Jim M. Pugh along with the entire Olds family will meet at the family reunion in (TBA) Alabama Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22. Small business workshop set

The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the "How to Start a Small Business" workshop Tuesday, July 24 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Kimbell House. The chamber has partnered with the University of West Alabama Small Business Development Center to bring workshops to the area and help local citizens who are interested in starting their own business. "If you are currently employed or not and are thinking about starting your own small business, this is an opportunity you will not want to miss," said LaShaunda Holly, executive director, of the chamber. Topics concerning reasons to go into business, purpose and components of a business plan and how to secure funding will be covered. There will be time afterwards for open and oneon one discussions. GHMH Auxiliary meets

Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's meeting will be Wednesday, July 25 at 9 a.m. Carlton Barmer, a registered respiratory therapist will be the special guest.

1960 Class of Wilson Hall

The 1960 Class of Wilson Hall High School invites any one who graduated from the school to attend their 47th year class reunion. The class will be honoring A.J. Children's Summer art camp

The Mobile Museum of Art will hold a weeklong art camp in Grove Hill for children, ages 7- 12 Monday, July 30-Friday, Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. until noon with art instructors from the Mobile Museum of Art to work with oils, watercolors and other art mediums. There is a $25 registration fee. Space is limited so contact Terry L. Norris at 251-275-3816 by May 15 to register or for more information. The event is a joint effort of the Mobile Museum of Art and the Grove Hill Arts Council.
