Clean-up in Ebenezer community
      Members of the Ebenezer community recently spent the day collecting litter in the area. They picked up litter along Highway 84, Norris Road, Ebenezer Road and County Road 21.

One arrested, more expected in property theft

      One man has been arrested and more arrests are expected once the investigation into a theft ring is concluded. Law enforcement agencies in Clarke and Monroe Counties have received reports of stolen lawn mowers, ATVs, four-wheelers and utility trailers over the past few weeks.

Vehicle stolen in Jackson, then discovered burned

      A burned vehicle found by Clarke County Sheriff's deputies in Gainestown last week was stolen from an East Pearl Street residence in Jackson. Apparently the vehicle's owner, Regina Creer, had left the vehicle at a relative's house while she was out of town.

Gas lines to be moved for steel plant

      Clarke Mobile Counties Gas District is preparing for gas line relocations that will cost around $6.5 to $7 million. Approximately three miles of gas lines will have to be moved eight miles in order to accommodate construction of the ThyssenKrupp steel mill in Calvert.

Thomasville council approves bonds for civic center construction

      The Thomasville City Council approved Monday an ordinance for the $4 million bond issue to fund the remodeling of the old high school next to City Hall as a Civic Center. The fixed interest rate is 4.45 percent over 30 years.

      Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day expressed concern Monday regarding upcoming hikes in the federal minimum wage. The increases will affect the ability of the city to hire lower wage employees and young people for summer jobs, he said.

Repairs completed on lift station spill

      Repairs have been completed on the Windsorwood Lift Station, where there was a sewage spill, said Mayor Sheldon Day at Monday's meeting of the Thomasville Water Works and Sewer Board. There was some "contact issues," he said. "The contacts would not stay engaged and caused it to throw breakers.

Officers recognized for lifesaving efforts
