Gas lines to be moved for steel plant Clarke Mobile Counties Gas District is preparing for gas line relocations that will cost around $6.5 to $7 million. Approximately three miles of gas lines will have to be moved eight miles in order to accommodate construction of the ThyssenKrupp steel mill in Calvert. The project will also include removing the old line. CMC Gas will be reimbursed for the project's cost by the state. Board members discussed the possibility of using local banks to finance the project initially. Management team members Al Bean told board members they had met with representatives from ThyssenKrupp about supplying the mill with natural gas but no decisions were made. Other business Board members approved the sale of surplus equipment. An amended budget was given to board members to look over until the next board meeting. An extended franchise agreement for Orange Beach was approved. The original franchise agreement was for 25 years. Board members agreed another 15 years be added to the franchise agreement. Consolidated Bids was awarded the bid for steel pipe fittings at $39,743.31.
M. T. Deason was awarded the bid for plastic pipe fittings at $46,399.14.
