Wright resigns at JA; Garrett, new coach Stanley R. Beard, chairman of the board at Jackson Academy, has announced that headmaster, athletic director and head football coach Lynn Wright turned in his resignation June 26, effective July 1. Wright, a native of Pickens County, worked at Jackson Academy for two years. He is taking a job as principal at New Hope High School in Columbus, Miss. "He is a great man," Beard said, "and we are going to miss him at the school." Former assistant football coach Mike Garrett has been named the new head football coach. He has worked at Jackson Academy for five years. Garrett previously coached at Jackson High School. "He is well qualified," Beard said, "and the kids like him. He's had a good turnout for summer workouts. He's a solid coach, very well known in these parts. We're excited." The Jackson Academy football camp will be held from July 23-25. Practice for the fall season begins July 26. Rance Carr, who had recently been hired as an advisor to the academy, has been named as the interim headmaster. Jackson Academy is currently accepting applications for the position of headmaster, Beard said.
The position will need to be filled before the first day of school, Aug. 8.
