By Evan Carden Special to The Democrat

An automobile reportedly stolen in Jackson this past weekend was found burned in the Gainestown area.

According to Jackson Police reports, a 2003 Kia Optima, valued at $8,500, was stolen from the 500 block of East Spruce Street. Chief Charles Burge said the vehicle was found around 11:45 a.m., Saturday, July 7.

"The owner of the vehicle didn't know it had been stolen until the Clarke County Sheriff's Department found it burned."

According to Clarke County Chief Deputy Vergil Chapman, the Kia was found at Gainestown landing and turned over to Jackson Police. Burge said the theft remains under investigation by his department.

In a separate incident reported Monday, July 9, a vehicle in the 200 block of Blue Springs Circle was broken into. A Pioneer brand stereo, valued at $149, was reportedly stolen from the vehicle.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call the Jackson Police Department at 246-4484.
