Calendar Free booster giveaway set Free boosters for children, less than four feet, nine inches and between 40-80 pounds will be given away Thursday, (today), July 26 from 12 until 3 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on Highway 43 in Thomasville. To receive free boosters you must be willing to bring children, fill out forms and receive education. This giveway is being sponsored by Spencer B. CCHS Band will be selling fish/chicken plates Clarke County High School Band will be selling fish or chicken strip plates with coleslaw, baked beans, hushpuppies or rolls and a slice of pound cake. Society to hear about Mauvilla The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, July 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Andrew Holmes, an archeological field technician for Barry Vittor and Associates in Mobile. Holmes has researched the location of Mauvilla, the Indian town where Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto fought with Native Americans in 1540. Holmes' work has identified a location in the southern part of Clarke County as the site of the important Indian town. Holmes used the calculations of his father, noted Mobile architect N.H. Holmes Jr. and the journal of a Spanish officer, Garcilaso, to determine the location, which fits the written description of Mauvilla. Children's Summer art camp The Mobile Museum of Art will hold a weeklong art camp in Grove Hill for children, ages 7-12 Monday, July 30-Friday, Aug. 3 at 9 a.m. until noon with art instructors from the Mobile Museum of Art to work with oils, watercolors and other art mediums. The event is a joint effort of the Mobile Museum of Art and the Grove Hill Arts Council. VFW Post to meet VFW Post 5106 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, July 30 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to come on out to see and hear the VFW program for the new year of 2007- 2008. Robinson family reunion The descendants of Manual Robinson and Wealthy Lynum Robinson will meet at the Robinson Family Reunion - Alabama 2007, Thursday, Aug. 2- Sunday, Aug. 5. Registration material has been mailed to family members with known addresses. CCHS new students meet Clarke County High School's "New Student Orientation" for all grade levels including the ninth grade will meet Thursday, Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. at the CCHS Cafeteria. New students, their parents and or guardians are invited to attend. You may also pay fees and pick up your schedule prior to or after the session. Diabetic support group meets Diabetic Support Group will meet quarterly at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Meeting dates for 2007 are Aug. 2 and Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Diabetes Education is offered at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital by an appointment only. MMAD Fun Day set Men Making A Difference (MMAD) will be sponsoring a Fun Day for all surrounding areas on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the old Fulton school.
