Fulton Baptists make mission trip
By Russell Wright

The mission team from the First Baptist Church of Fulton included but not in order: Jennifer Wood (who surrendered her life to foreign missions that week), Kelly Patton, Diane Patton, Russ Wright, Rachel Wright, Jessica Ussery, Hunter Andrews, Tyler Walker, Johnny Criswell, Sebrina Criswell, Walt Bedsole, Stepheni Wright and youth minister, Russell Wright.
On June 23-30 13 adults and youth from First Baptist Church of Fulton partnered with J. T. and Sheryl Turner of One Way Ministries in Birmingham for a mission trip to Sells, Ariz. Grace Baptist of Oxford and Pioneer Community Church of McMinnville, Tenn. also participated. While there we ministered to the Tohono O'Odham Indians, the poorest people group in the United States.

Most of these precious people live in utter poverty. The land was dry and desolate and there was a sense of hopelessness that hung over the O'Odham people. We had to keep reminding ourselves that we were still in the U.S. because being on the reservation was like being in a third world country.

Our mission team from Fulton split into two groups and taught Vacation Bible School in two different villages each morning from 9 until 12 p.m. Even though temperatures ranged from 110° to 115° each day, it didn't keep us from taking advantage of the awesome opportunity to share the Gospel with the Indian children in the villages of Choulic and Cowlic, just 6-10 miles from the Mexican border.

Each night, we set up in the local grocery store parking lot for a crusade that featured music, testimonies and preaching. Others from the mission team gave out gospel tracts and shared the gospel with people one-on-one. Gang activity was very prevalent on the reservation and several of us got to share the gospel with gang members.

We concluded the week by having baptism Friday night after the last crusade for those who repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as Savior during the week. It was an awesome time of rejoicing as many were saved and baptized, including several gang members.

Even though we saw extreme poverty, experienced spiritual warfare and witnessed desperate situations, we also saw God's work in the hearts of people, felt God's awesome power and saw God change lives forever.

Whether across the world, across the U.S. or across the street, God is calling every true Christian to be bold in sharing Jesus and the salvation that only He offers.
