Thomasville again hosting World Series

Thomasville is hosting the 2007 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series for the third time in five years.

Teams and fans from 11 southern states are converging on the city for the games. Motels are filled and restaurants and other businesses expect a lot of business from the crowds.

Thomasville first hosted the tournament in 2003, earning the distinction of being one of the smallest communities ever to host a World Series. The city hosted the event again in 2006.

A banquet for the participating teams will officially kick off the tournament this Friday night. The games start Saturday with three scheduled at Thomasville High School's field and Tucker Field.

Play will continue through Thursday, Aug. 2 with the 2007 champion being determined in the final game that day.

Participating teams are from: • Toccoa, Ga. • Laurel, Miss. • Appomattox, Va. • Dentsville, S.C. • Birmingham, Ala. • Sevier County, Ark. • Lakeland, Fla. • Moss Bluff, La. • East Lincoln, N.C. • Collierville, Tenn. • Kilgore, Texas.
