A suspect in a drive-by shooting July 26 in Thomasville remains at large.

Christopher Pugh, 20, who lives on Old Highway 5 in Thomasville, walked across the highway from his home to check his mailbox. On the way back down the driveway to his residence, a red Mitsubishi automobile with tinted windows appeared, said Chief Investigator Ron Baggette of the Clarke County Sheriff's Department.

The driver yelled something to Pugh, and a gunshot came from the vehicle. Pugh had his body turned to the side when he was shot. He was hit in the abdomen.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Pugh was treated at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville and released that day, Baggette said.

The victim told officials he did not know the person in the vehicle. Officials believe the shooting was random. After the shooting, the automobile traveled north on Old Highway 5 to Sunny South and possibly went into Lower Peach Tree. Baggette suspects that the owner of the vehicle lives in Lower Peach Tree.

The Sheriff's Department has information on the possible location of the suspect's vehicle. If anyone has information on the suspect's vehicle, call Chief Investigator Baggette at 1-251-275-8132.

In addition, two people were arrested last week in a home burglary July 26 that county officials have determined was an inside job.

Burglary investigated also

The Sheriff's Department received the call at 8:30 p.m. concerning a burglary at the home of Shantel Dupree Young of 841 London Road in Thomasville, Baggette said.

Stolen were the following items: firearms: a 25 cal. auto model E27c ($84.96 value), 22 cal. Derringer with a pearl handle ($200), and a Smith and Western 38 cal. ($328); and $300 in quarters, $30 in silver dollars and $20 in 50 cent pieces. The burglary likely occurred during the day that Thursday while Young was away at work.

After taking fingerprints and preliminary interviews, investigators determined that the burglary involved Young's daughter, Krystal Lanette McCart, 20, also of 841 London Road, and her boyfriend, Tommy Lee Enfinger, 22, who currently lives in Fulton.

McCart was arrested and charged with theft of property, second degree. She was also arrested July 28 on another charge. Enfinger was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, second degree. There may be another arrest possible, Baggette said.

The firearms were recovered, but the coins have yet to be found. One of the persons who purchased one of the firearms returned the item to officials and cooperated fully in the investigation. He gave evidence against Enfinger, Baggettee said.

Baggette wished to thank Chief Deputy Vergil Chapman and deputies Ronald Robinson and Matt Flora for their help in the burglary investigation.
