Fire departments receive legislative grants

The Clarke County Firefighters Association met July 19, and State Representative Marc Keahey was on hand to officially award each volunteer fire department approximately $1,895.73 each. The money is earmarked annually by the state legislature for VFD general operations. State Senator Hank Sanders will also be awarding funds to departments in District 23 (on the east side of the county) and the county association as a whole. Keahey spoke to the firefighters concerning issues important to the association including insurance. "As far as legislation for volunteer fire departments, there's not a stumbling block in Montgomery as far as any particular group of legislators," he said. "You are a group that everybody appreciates and knows that we need….If there's any way we can find funding to put in the budget for you, I'm going to be looking into it."
