Time for school again!
The new school year always offers a new beginning for students. They can make a firm decision to do better in each subject. They can determine to develope old and new friendships. They can set thier reading goals. And, of course, there is the beginning of football season. Teams will show us their players' skills and cheerleaders will be bubbling with school spirit and striving to pass it on to the fans. Oh, and let's not forget the other bright spots, moms will have about seven hours of free time after morning bell rings. In our family we send the kids back to school with a celebration. Manual and Anne Garrick hosted a family swimming party and back to school bash. The kids had great fun swimming in the pool or playing games in the poolhouse. The adults sat around the fish ponds talking and watching the kids play. Manual grilled burgers, chicken, ribs, sausage and weiners. Anne prepared her baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs and green salad. Appetizers before the meal were hot crab dip with crackers, buffalo wings with blue cheese dip, and nacho cheese dip with Tostitos. Since Anne and my son-inlaw Michael Newton both recently had birthdays, our desserts were cakes for each of them, one chocolate and one vanilla. Ya'll know there was food all over the place, and it was all good. Send your kids back to school with a celebration. Then they'll know that school is a special time in their lives. You'll also be creating another memory for them. Here are some recipes you may want to try. Spicy BBQ Burgers 1 lb. ground beef 1 T Dijon mustard 1/4 c BBQ sauce 4 toasted hamburger buns tomato slices, onion slices, dill pickles and lettuce cheese slices if desired Mix meat and mustard with salt and pepper to taste. Grill on covered grill over medium heat for about 20 minutes or until 160 degrees inside, turning once. For those who want cheese, top meat with cheese during last few minutes on grill. Place patties on prepared buns spread with BBQ sauce on bottom of bun and desired condiments on the top bun. Always use napkins with these burgers, they are juicy!
