Who moved the tree? My mom and dad were advocates of children playing outside. Because of this, my sister, Allison, and I had plenty of outside toys with which to play. We had bikes, big wheels, water games, and a swing set. This swing set was our favorite. Though the swing set is probably now in the city dump, at one time, it was a prized possession. Memories flood back to me when I remember this set, but one in particular makes me laugh. Allison and I were playing all day when our parents finally called us in for supper. They had installed the swing set too close to a pine tree, and while we were inside winding down for the day, my parents decided to move the set. We, as usual, were oblivious to the many things they did to keep us safer. They did not think we would notice anything. The next morning, my mother and sister, who was about two years old, went out on to the back porch. Being the swing set was in the back yard, you could see it from this porch. Mom went on down the porch steps into the yard with her basket of clothes to hang out, and Allison stood on the porch with a concerned look on her face. She studied the situation for a minute, and proceeded to tell my mother the amazing thing that had happened during the night. With both hands propped on her hips, Allison declared, "Will you look at that! Someone came into our yard last night and moved the pine tree!" When I think back to the times we kids thought through situations, it is incredible how we reasoned. It was more possible to my sister that someone had come into our yard and moved the pine tree instead of the swing set being moved. As a child of God, we sometimes take the simplest explanations and make them so complex God must get a chuckle. We, like children, are usually ignorant of the many things God does to protect us. Though He may move obstacles from our path without our knowing, we always see them afterward. We must all remember: it may not be the "pine tree" He moved.
