The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) released information July 26 on a draft of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for fiscal years 2008- 2011. A meeting was held at the Grove Hill office with an emphasis on projects for Choctaw, Clarke, Marengo, Monroe, Sumter, Washington and Wilcox Counties.

Lou Wallace, assistant division engineer, pre-construction, and Ray Barren, assistant bureau chief, spoke to a group of reporters and the public.

The following projects for Clarke County were presented (prices only include funding allocated in the STIP, not the total cost of the project):

• bridge replacement for state Highway 12/U.S. Highway 84 west of Coffeeville over the Tombigbee River ($1,010,000.00). Right-of-way acquisition and utilities adjustment will begin in 2010.

• right-of-way acquisition will be authorized in October 2008 for the fourlaning of state Highway 13/U.S. Highway 43 from the Marengo County Line to the intersection with state Highway 5 ($2,225,000.00).
