French

Jacob French, 94, a lifelong resident of the Carlton Community of Jackson died July 22, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 17, 1912 to the parentage of Joseph French and Mary McKenzie French. He was a faithful member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served in the following capacities until his health failed: church school superintendent, trustee, church treasurer, choir member and steward. He was the oldest member of the church and was known throughout the county as a great gospel soloist whose specialty was the old time spirituals. He retired from Patrick Petroleum Oil Field and later retired from White Smith Lumber Company.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Bell French, Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Tommy Lee (Sandra) French Sr., Chickasaw; one daughter, Adell (Robert Lee "Melvin") Jackson, Jackson; one sister, Sarah Watkins, Jackson; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

The service was July 27 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Georgia P. Nash officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
