Robinson
He was born Aug. 14, 1925. He graduated from Clarke County High School. He received his B.S. degree in biology from The University of Alabama in 1959 and a Master's degree from George Washington University. He became a member of the United States Marine Corps after completing training as a naval aviator. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He flew approximately 400 combat missions. He received two Distinguished Flying Crosses for missions flown in Korea and Vietnam, a Bronze Star with 13 air medals, an Air Force Commendation medal, as well as other personal medals. He was deeply devoted to service to his country and served 30 years in the military. He was devoted to his family and friends. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years. He assisted his devoted wife of 58 years, Helen Robinson, with the work of the Compassionate Friends, a selfhelp group for bereaved parents. He led workshops on the national level as well as locally and statewide. He was a gifted writer and assisted in publishing the chapter newsletter for 23 years.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dayton Robinson III, "Sonny" and John Hubert Robinson, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Robinson Sr. and three brothers, Thomas W. Robinson, James E. Robinson and Daniel C. Robinson. The service was Aug. 4 at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Rev. Sandy Felkins officiating. Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Frank Woodson, Kevin Woodson, Bonner Lee, James Lee and John Crowell. Honorary pallbearers were Earnest Woodson, Jack Means, Robert Berglin, Ned Lee, John Lee, Bill Minor, Dr. Jerry Eure, David Andres, and members of the Compassionate Friends Tuscaloosa Chapter and Dr. Naresh Kumar.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Compassionate Friends, c/o Beth Farmer, 8222 Ivy Lane, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
