Reader follows county's pro baseball players
What a great edition last week! The old pictures were of great interest. As a baseball nut I was especially pleased with the picture of the 1932 Fulton baseball team. My father, Will Edge, is the person in the photo shown as "MGR." One small error: Grey Clarke played for the Chicago White Sox, not the Washington Senators. I haver researched records and relied on "The Baseball Encylopedia" to find all Clarke Countians who have played in "the Bigs." I believe the following list is accurate: Grey Clarke, Fulton, 3B, Chicago White Sox; Jimmy Outlaw, Jackson, INF/OF, Cinncinati Reds, Boston Braves, Detroit Tigers; Tom Long, Mitchum, OF, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Senators; "Red" Barnes, Suggsville, OF, Chicago White Sox; Sam Barnes, Suggsville, INF, Detroit Tigers; "Lefty" Bolen, Jackson, P, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies; Ray Prim, Salitpa, P, Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs; Grant Gillis, Grove Hill, INF, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox; Reid Cornelius, Thomasville, P, Montreal Expos and New York Mets. Two trivia questions: Q: Name two college teammates who played in the Rose Bowl and were also teammates on the Washington Senators? A: Two Grove Hill boys, Red Barnes and Grant Gillis. Q:Name two Clarke Countians who opposed each other in the 1945 World Series? A: Ray Prim (Chicago Cubs and Jimmy Outlaw (Detroit Tigers) Larson Edge
