Beer distributors give to T'ville wets
By Jim Cox Editor & Publisher

Beer distributors contributed to the campaign to legalize alcohol in Thomasville but their contributions were far less than what local churches gave to the campaign to fight sales.

In financial disclosure forms filed late last week, "People Responsibly Organized For Alcohol Control In Thomasville" (ProAct), the group advocating a wet vote, reported that Chris Fuchs of Mobile gave $1,000 and All State Beverage Co., Inc. of Montgomery gave $750. Fuchs is manager of Budweiser's Mobile market.

ProAct also listed $250 in non-itemized donations, contributions of $100 or less per person.

Expenditures included $1,318.20 to The Thomasville Times for advertising. An ending balance of $1,318.20 was reported.

Citizens Against Alcohol Sales in Thomasville (CAAST) reported a $200 donation from Larry Knight and a $101 donation from Glenda T. Prescott, both of Thomasville. Seventy dollars in non-itemized contributions were noted.

Expenses totaled $3,861 and were to WINL Radio, Demopolis, $537.60; WJDB Radio, Thomasville, $860; The Thomasville Times, $2,083.50; and The Clarke County Democrat, $380.

An ending balance of $1,538.80 was listed.

CAAST's earlier 45-day report detailed over $10,000 in contributions, most of it coming from churches in the Thomasville area.
