Area churches are holding a variety of events this month
The annual homecoming at St. Thomas A.M.E. Church of Lower Peach Tree will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Ronnie Cook, pastor of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church of Uniontown. Revival services will be held Aug. 20-24 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. The evangelist for the week will be Rev. W.R. Twilley, pastor of New Vernon CP Church of Browns. During homecoming services the yearly "Cemetery Upkeep Box" will be available for family and friends with loved ones interred at the St. Thomas Cemetery to make a donation for the continued upkeep of the cemetery. Donations may also be mailed to the church or given to Mrs. Irene Johns. The annual homecoming at Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church of Packers Bend will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Lathon Burrell of Boiling Springs Baptist Church of Catherine. Revival services will be held Aug. 27-31 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. The evangelist for the week will be Rev. C.L. Franklin of Spring Hill Baptist Church of Jones. Rev. W.W. Nixon is the pastor of St. Thomas and Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Churches. Chance Baptist Church will observe its annual Missionary Day program on Sunday, Aug. 26. Worship services begin at 11:30 a.m. Rev. C.L. Marshall is the pastor. Happy Birthday! Greetings are extended to the following community members who will celebrate their birthday during the month of August: John Lee Chapman-8/22, Tammy Dotson-8/30, James Dubose-8/2, Lakesia Kidd-8/22, Kayla Marshall-8/14, Melisa Marshall-8/14, Jason Morrissette- 8/1, Cleo Morrissette-8/22, Leo Morrissette-8/22, Ezan Morrissette -8/30, Yolanda Taite-8/24, Mary Welch-8/17, Maxine Welch-8/6, Annie Pearl Welch-8/17, Steve Taite-8/15, Marie Timmons-8/26. Condolences are extended to the Jackson/Gardner family of Thomasville on the loss of their loved one, Barbara Woods Gardner. Barbara worked at the Thomasville Mental Health Rehabilitation Center before her retirement several years ago. She has worked as an R.N. at the Thomasville Hospital and Grove Hill Hospital. She was well known and well loved for her genuine kindness to everyone she met. She is the sister of Rep. Thomas Jackson. Condolences are also extended to the Taite family on the loss of their loved one, Regina Marie Taite of Toldeo, Ohio. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lee Taite (nee Lucinda Foreman) were Clarke County natives.
