An employee was killed Wednesday morning in an accident at Francis Powell Enterprises, a trucking company, on Highway 84 East in Grove Hill.

The victim was Christopher Johns, 35, of Lower Peach Tree, according to Buster Hough, an investigator with the Grove Hill Police Department.

Johns was mounting a spare tire under a trailer. The truck driver visibly saw Johns outside the trailer and thought he had finished, Hough said. The truck pulled off while Johns was still under the trailer, and the back wheels of the trailer ran over Johns, killing him.

The call was received to E-911 at approximately 9:19 a.m. Officials with the Grove Hill Police Department, the Clarke County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's office responded to the site.

The body was removed from the site by LifeLine ambulance and transported to the state Forensics Department in Mobile. The incident is still under investigation by Police Chief Leo Frazier and the Grove Hill Police Department.

This is the second fatal accident at a Grove Hill business in just over a month's time.

William Rodger Raybon was killed when he was hit by a forklift at Liberty Building Products' plant on Love Road on July 17.
