C'ville council OKs $182,000 budget with employee raises The Coffeeville Town Council voted Tuesday night to approve the fiscal 2008 budget. Projected revenues total $182,000.00, and projected expenditures are $176,503.75. Included is a five percent raise for the police chief, town/court clerk - magistrate, and maintenance person. The three employees received a three percent raise in the 2007 budget. In other action from Tuesday's council meeting, a pledge of $500 for the district Drug Task Force was approved. • The council tabled appointments to the town water board. The board needs a replacement for Alice White, who is resigning due to illness. In addition, Mayor Faye Cotten said the council would soon have to address possible raises for council members for next year. The municipal election will be held in 2008. • It was reported that the Fireman's Ball will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the Coffeeville High School Auditorium. • The town's 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2008, and council member Terri C. Hudson wants the town to have a block party to mark the occasion. The town is also looking for photographs of former mayors to display in the town hall during the celebration. • Mayor Cotten said the library should be reopened in October. "We've been working two days-aweek," she said of the effort of the volunteers.
The current Leadership Clarke County class will visit Coffeeville in October, and the mayor wants to have the library open by then.
