School year off to great start
By Jake Paul Special to The Democrat

The 2007-2008 school year at Clarke County High School is off to a great start. With the finishing touches being put on the new facility, an increase in test scores and the four new additions to the faculty, this school year is bound to be one of the best in recent years.

We especially want to thank everyone who supported the Royal Band of Blue as they worked this summer to gather the money for uniforms. Each individual's and company's support helped us reach our goal and the uniforms have been ordered. Thank You!

With excitement growing around the completion of the new school, students and teachers fell back into the routine of things with no problem. This past year, CCHS met its AYP goals set by No Child Left Behind. This year, the faculty and administration plans to continue this progress and exceed goals.

To help students increase test scores, CCHS is again offering remediation sessions for the Alabama High School Graduation Exam in all five subjects. The study sessions are held after school with various teachers, depending on the course. These classes are extremely helpful and all students who have yet to pass all portions of the graduation exam are urged to attend these sessions. The next time the Alabama High School Graduation Exam will be administered is Sept. 17-21.

Progress Reports will be sent home Sept. 14, marking the halfway point of the first nine weeks grading period.

This year the administration is asking for more school spirit than ever. The 2007-2008 spirit shirts are currently on sale for $12 and $15. Contact the main office for more information. The football team has been busy preparing for this year's season, working hard to advance into this year's playoffs. The volleyball team has begun their season with a string of wins, and is hoping to have a great season. The Royal Band of Blue has been working hard preparing for halftime shows.

We are off to an outstanding start for this school year. As we continue to prepare for our move into the new facility, we have many needs. We are asking the community to help us fill these needs. Clubs, civic organizations and concerned citizens can help us continue to meet the needs of our students by contributing to fulfill a specific need. We will gratefully acknowledge your support by placing your name on a plaque displayed in the foyer of our new facility.
