MHS takes sting out of John Essex

Marengo High School opened the 2007 season with a 19-6 win over the visiting Hornets of John Essex last Friday night.

Quintin Watkins scored the game's first touchdown on a 12- yard run.

Dante Packer added a 15-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

James Dumas closed out the scoring for Marengo in the fourth frame on a 2-yard QB sneak.

Packer had 118 yards on 17 carries. Lawrence and Kaylos Pritchett had 11 tackles and two sacks each in the season opening win. Onterrio Woods added 10 stops.

Marengo travels to Coffeeville this Thursday to face the Panthers in a key region game.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
