Community Calendar Art exhibit this weekend in Thomasville The Arts Council of Thomasville and Grove Hill Arts Council are sponsoring an art exhibit in Thomasville at the Louisiana Pacific office on Wilson Avenue. The opening reception will be Thursday, (today) Sept. 13 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The exhibit will feature local artists presenting original works for show and sale. The exhibit will also be open Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in supporting and enjoying the works of our local artists. GHMH to host "Help is Here" tour The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, "Help is Here" Express Tour will visit the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital from 3 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, (today) Sept. 13. This is a program that connects patients in need to programs that may provide prescriptions at low or no cost. PPA is making 10 stops in Alabama this week, and there may be 300,000 Alabamians still eligible for the program. Coffeeville Maid applicants Attention High School girls, 7-12 grade with a Coffeeville address you are eligible to apply to become a Coffeeville Tombigbee Maid. The Tombigbee Maid program is sponsored by the Coffeeville/West Bend/Bethel Fire Departments and the Coffeeville Ladies League. You can pick up your application at your school, First United Security Bank, Village Pharmacy or Just Teasin. The deadline to return your application to these above locations is Friday, Sept. 14. HIV Prevention meeting The Public Health Area 9 HIV Prevention Group will meet Friday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Monroe County Health Department. Scarbrough-Dixon reunion rescheduled The Scarbrough-Dixon Family reunion has been canceled for Sept. 15. The reunion will be rescheduled and held next year. United Way Kickoff set The Clarke County United Way 2007 Campaign Kickoff will be held Monday, Sept. 17 at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. RSVP by Sept. 12 to jscott@uwswa.org or call 251-433-3624. SWAIA to meet The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) will have its monthly meeting and community information forum Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be Laurie McCaulley, president, Alabama Parent Teachers Association (PTA). Her presentation will focus on the new face of PTA and the role that PTA plays in today's family. There will also be a question and answer period. SWAIA is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting community unity/impowerment and improving the quality of life for individuals in Southwest Alabama from a wholistic perspective, mentally, physically, spiritually and economically. Historical Society to meet The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The speaker for the meeting will be Mrs. Marilyn Culpepper. Mrs. Culpepper, who grew up in Grove Hill, is the executive director of the Mobile Historic Preservation Society. The Mobile Historic Preservation Society was founded in 1935, and owns and maintains the Oakleigh Historic Complex. Please note that the date is one week earlier than the regular meeting date. The public is invited to attend. Fulton Fire and Rescue fall gospel singing set Fulton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Annual Fall Gospel Singing will be Saturday, Oct. 6 in downtown Fulton from 3:30 p.m. until. Local talent includes: Bridgette Shewmake, Darlene Phillips, Donald Pugh, Warren Harrell, Wayne Campbell, Rev. and Scotty, Centurions Quartet, Dixie Disciples, Grateful Heart, Glory Road Quartet and the Good News Quartet. In case of rain the singing will be held in the Fulton School Auditorium. There will be a cake auction and door prizes. Bring a chair. Coffeeville Fireman's ball set The Fourth Annual Coffeeville Fireman's Ball will be Saturday, Oct. 6 from 6 p.m. - until at the Coffeeville High School auditorium. Tickets will be $50 per couple and $25 single, also includes dinner and entertainment. It is a semiformal event. WHHS Class of 1968 The Wilson Hall High School Class of 1968 has moved the date of its 39th year class reunion from Oct. 19-21, 2007 to the following year, (2008) to coincide with its 40th year. A date will soon be announced.
