SWHS runs all over Akron
The Bulldogs scored 24 points in the first quarter and 28 points in the second quarter to blow the game wide open. Anthony Landrum started the on-slaught as he scored on a 3- yard run early in the first quarter. Butch Williams added the 2- point conversion to make it 8-0. Minutes later Akron pulled close with a 40-yard TD pass. The attempt failed, but the Rams cut the lead to 8-6 with 4:24 to go in the first. Less than a minute later SWHS hit paydirt again as Drew Luker tossed an 11-yard scoring pass to Antonio Landrum. Anthony Landrum ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 16-6. Anthony Landrum found a crease and ran for an 18-yard score with 2:19 left in the first quarter and then caught the 2- point pass from Luker to make it 24-6. On the first play of the second quarter Anthony Landrum scored on a 7-yard run. Scottie Nelson kicked the PAT, making it 31-6. Butch Williams added to the lead with a 5-yard sprint with 7:08 left in the first half. Nelson converted the kick and the Bulldogs led 38-6. Johnny Lockett got in on the scoring act as he raced in from 34-yards out for the next SWHS score. Nelson added the PAT and the Bulldogs had a 45-6 stranglehold. Just before halftime Luker tossed a 35-yard TD pass to Nelson. Nelson then added the point-after touchdown to give Sweet Water a 52-6 lead at the break. In the third quarter Chris Landrum scored on a 1-yard run. Jeremy Landrum ran in the 2-point conversion making it 60- 6. Randy Jackson scored on a 1- yard dive and Desmond Bouler ran for the 2-point conversion to increase the lead to 68-6 late in the third frame. The final Sweet Water score came when Jeremy Landrum scored on a 1-yard plunge. Nelson made the kick and the Bulldogs had a 75-6 lead. Akron did not give up as they connected on a 99-yard scoring pass with 1:00 left in the game. They added the 2-point conversion to make the final score 75- 14. Sweet Water rolled up 501 yards on the ground and added 115 yards in the air. Anthony Landrum led all rushers with 118 yards on 14 carries. Freshman Chris Landrum added 93 yards one seven carries. Devin Wolfe, Delano Brown and Johnny Lockett each had five tackles. The Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0) are on the road again this week as they travel to Newbern to play Sunshine (2-0,1-0). "They are big and athletic," Coach Stacy Luker said.
