JA Eagles give Patrician good fight
After a bad punt by Jackson, the Saints began a drive at midfield. Running backs Ryan Webb and Justin Brannon alternated on plays in a six-play drive that resulted in a six-yard touchdown run by Webb. However, a block-in-back penalty took the score off the board, and a delay of game knocked the Saints back to the Eagle 20. No problem, quarterback John Graham passed to Brandon Hendley for the TD with 10:38 left in the second quarter. Rick Muller's pointafter kick was good, and PA led by 7. It didn't take long for the Saints to score again. After JA was three downs-and-out, Patrician had the ball on the Eagle 43. On the second play Graham passed to Hendley again for a TD with 8:02 left in the first half. With the extra point, PA led by 14. The two teams would trade interceptions in the second quarter, Graham was intercepted by Eagle Trent Slayton, and JA quarterback Logan Barnes intercepted by Ryan Webb The Eagles also gave PA a fumble and another interception. That interception by the Saints' Ryan Webb with 21.6 seconds left in the half was runback for a touchdown. The Saints led 21-0 at halftime. On the first PA drive of the second half, they got as close as the Eagle three-yard line, but fumbled the ball, and JA recovered. The two defenses stiffened for much of the second half, but toward the end of the fourth quarter, the Saints took only a few plays to score. Starting the drive from the Eagle 49, a pass to Hendley reached the 19-yard line. From there, Webb ran for a TD with 2:39 left in the game. The Eagles would go as far as the Saint's 5-yard line on their final drive, but time ran out. The final score was Patrician 28- Jackson 0.
Jackson looks to get in the win column this week as they travel to Canoe to play Escambia Academy. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
