CPS takes second in M-E tourney

The Clarke Prep School Lady Gators brought home second place in the Macon-East Invitational Tournament this past weekend in Cecil.

The Lady Gators fell 17-25 and 23-25 to Lee- Scott in the championship game.

Tess Ackerman had four digs, eight hits and four kills. Corrie Allen had two digs, three aces, eight hits and three kills. Julie Banks had seven hits and two kills. Harley Horton added six hits, two kills and two blocks.

In the semi-finals Clarke Prep beat Macon-East 25-16 and 25-14.

Ackerman had two digs, eight hits, three kills, a block, a dink and 10 assists. Allen had an ace, 11 hits, four kills, two dinks and 10 assists. Banks added two digs, five hits and three kills. Horton had seven hits and five kills. Rachel Mayton had five digs, five hits and two kills. Courtney Dunagan had five digs, three hits and two kills.

The Lady Gators beat Hooper 25-16 and 26-16 in the first round of the tournament.

Ackerman had two digs, an ace, seven hits and three kills. Allen had six digs, four aces, nine hits and seven kills. Banks had two digs, six hits and five kills. Mayton had seven digs, two aces and three hits. Horton had an ace, seven hits and two kills.

Last Tuesday the Lady Gators won a big region match as they beat Marengo 25-3m 25-9 and 25-2 in Grove Hill.

Ackerman had two digs, three aces, 10 hits, six kills and seven assists. Allen had 16 aces, seven hits, five kills and five assists. Banks added two aces, six hits, two kills and a block. Horton had an ace, six hits, four kills and a block.

CPS traveled to Canoe Tuesday to play Escambia Academy in a region game. Next Tuesday they go to Jackson for another important region game.

Correction: The player identified in last week's CPS volleyball photo was not Jessica McKinley. It was Tess Ackerman. The Democrat aplogizes for the error and is happy to make the correction.
