Leroy beats Keith 34-0
By Ross Wood Democrat Sports Editor

The Leroy Bears got off to a somewhat slow start before pulling away in the second half as they beat the Keith Bears 34-0 last Friday night in Orrville.

Quarterback Clint Moseley got things started for Leroy as he tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to receiver Patrick Rivers.

Paul Gartman converted the kick and Leroy was on top 7-0 with 3:56 left in the first quarter.

"Keith was a good football team," Coach Danny Powell said. "They run the Wing-T and do a good job and have good athletes."

The score remained that way through the majority of the first half before Leroy added to their lead when Moseley connected with fullback Detrick Powell on a 19-yard swing pass.

The kick failed and Leroy took a 13-0 lead into halftime.

Tailback Michael Bracy added to the lead early in the third quarter when he scored on a 5-yard run.

Moseley connected with Aerik Davis on the 2-point pass play and the lead was increased to 21-0 with 8:10 to go in the period.

The defense was able to keep Keith at bay and the offense found the endzone again as Powell powered in from 1-yard out. Keith blocked the point-after try, leaving the score at 27-0 with 2:29 to go in the third quarter.

The final score in the contest came with about five minutes left to play when Moseley dialed up Davis for a 47-yard touchdown. Gartman converted the kick and the Bears won going away 34-0.

The Bear offense rolled up 357 yards while limiting Keith to just 151 yards.

Powell rushed for 51 yards on 10 carries.

Moseley was 12-of-16 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns.

Davis hauled in five passes for 144 yards and a TD. Rivers caught five passes for 43 yards and a score.

Grant Brown led the defense with 10 tackles, including two for a loss as well as two sacks. Josh Ervin had nine tackles. Chris Weaver and Brandon Jones each had seven stops. Davis had an interception. Tyler Faith recovered a fumble.

This Friday the Bears (2-0, 1-0) return home to host the Excel Panthers (2-0, 1-0) in a key region match-up.

Game time at Palmer Stadium is 7 p.m.
