      The Leroy Bears found a way to get past a slow start to throttle their way past the Excel Panthers for a key 28-7 win last Friday night at Palmer Stadium in Leroy. Early in the second quarter the Leroy offense and defense both provided points to break open a scoreless game.

      The Coffeeville High School Panthers ran into a buzzsaw in J.U. Blacksher, losing 43-0 last Friday night in Coffeeville. The quarters in the second half were shortened after two of the Panthers were injured and seventh graders were forced into action.

Babes take second in v'ball tourney
      The Clarke County High School Babes finished second in their 8-team invitational tournament this past Saturday in Grove Hill. The Babes lost 13-25 and 13- 25 to champion Leroy High School. In the semi-final match CCHS beat arch-nemesis and region foe Mobile Christian 25-9 and 25-20.

      Jimmy Deas of Prattville sent The Democrat a Coffeeville High School newspaper from April 5, 1937. It was entitled "Coffeeville Hi-Lite" and offered a variety of school news items. One of the most interesting items was the above piece on a "comparatively new game" being played- "soft ball.
