HIPPY enrolls first family for program

Gwen Wilkerson and family. She has enrolled her son, Hayden, in the new HIPPY program.
Gwen Wilkerson of Jackson and her son, Hayden, recently became the very "first" family to be enrolled in the HIPPY Clarke County Program.

The enrollment actually involved two families! Gwen's sister, Ashley Napier and her son, Carter, live with Gwen and her family and were enrolled in the program also.

HIPPY Coordinator, Jane Sellers, visited the family recently to meet them and complete the necessary paperwork to officially begin the recruitment process of families for the HIPPY Program in Clarke County.

HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) is a home-based, school readiness program for 3 and 4 year old preschoolers.

The county-wide program is free to qualifying families and seeks to serve 70 families in Clarke County during the 2007- 2008 program. Mrs. Sellers will be making home visits with families in all the communities during the month of September.

If interested in this program, you may call (251) 275-4650, (251) 275-7001, or (334) 636- 2122. HIPPY Clarke County is a project of the Clarke County Development Foundation.
