Drug Testing business opens The Drug Test Group, LLC opened for business in Jackson Monday, Sept. 17. "We provide drug, alcohol and DNA testing services. This is all we do so it makes it more convenient. You don't have the wait here that you would at the doctor's office or the hospital," owner Sandy Dews said. Dews, a Grove Hill native, taught school for several years before going to work for a drug test manufacturer, selling drug tests and making presentations to large companies and corrections facilities. She also trained other sales personnel. "I've done all of it, so I know drug testing," she said. From 1996 through 1998 she testified on behalf of the National Onsite Testing Association at hearings in Washington for the need of onsite drug testing. In 1997 she and her nephew opened Drug Testing Services in Montgomery. "We would get calls in Montgomery to come to court for testing. With the amount of calls we were getting we thought we needed a presence here. We can do everything right here in Jackson and the results are back in three to five days, or even one day if it's needed," Dews said. Drug, alcohol and DNA testing is available for employers and for private citizens. Dews said many tests are performed for families. The drug testing process utilizes urine, saliva and hair follicle samples. They perform DOT testing and non-DOT testing, onsite testing, MRO services and will help with drug policy development and management. For alcohol testing they utilize a breath DOT and non-DOT test. Dews is a certified BAT technician and saliva alcohol testing is also performed. The Drug Test Group also offers the use of the SCRAM bracelet, used to monitor alcohol consumption. The DNA testing is completely confidential, 100 percent accurate and results are back quickly. "You have to make sure these tests are done correctly. You are changing people's lives. We know drug and alcohol testing." Dews said she is trying to find a substance abuse counselor to come to the office for those who need it. "I think it would be really good for this area," she said.
