Area Blossom Gas offices sold

South Alabama Gas District, a public-owned utility, has purchased five Blossman Gas offices for around $4.3 million, according to a news report. The sale includes Blossman offices in Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties.

Mark Burgess, general manager for the utility, explained the acquisition at a recent board meeting in Evergreen as reported in the Evergreen Courant.

"It [the acquisition] will be very good for the district," Burgess told the board.

The five area Blossman offices include operations in Grove Hill, Jackson, Chatom, Gilbertown and Butler.

South Alabama Gas is retaining 15 of Blossman's 20 employees. The five not retained are all over retirement age and were offered severance packages, Burgess said.

South Alabama Gas District serves several municipalities with natural gas but in recent years has expanded into the propane business, buying propane operations.

South Alabama Gas already has an office in Thomasville, the result of the purchase of a propane operation there.
