Dixon

Alma Elizabeth Dixon, 81, of Chatom died Sept. 24, 2007 at a Mobile hospital.

She was born April 30, 1926. She was a native of Eight Mile. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatom. She began her career as a foster parent in 1972 for the Alabama Batist Church Home. In addition she served as a foster parent for the Washington County Department of Human Resources for over 25 years having nutured hundreds of children in her home. She served as an emergency care shelter and was a licensed day care provider for Washington County for many years. Her love of children was evidenced by the many adults who returned over the years to say hello to "Granny Dixon."

Survivors include four biological children-one son, Joseph Glenn Dixon Jr., St. Augustine, Fla.; three daughters, Barbara Dixon Woods, Southlake, Texas, Glenda Dixon Goldman, Leroy, Tammy Dixon Cook, Plano, Texas; two adopted children, Cathy Beech, Tammy Wynn, both of Chatom; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The service was Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Chatom with Bro. Monty Mills officiating. Burial was in the Chatom Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directed.

Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Joey Dixon, Matt Dixon, Jonathan Woods, Chris Woods, Stephen Cook, Nicholas Goldman, Lee Goldman and William Goldman.
