The Clarke Prep School Gators scored on all seven of their first half possessions as they cruised to a 67-12 Homecoming win over Taylor Road last Friday night at Hamilton Field in Grove Hill.

Ironically Taylor Road drew first blood in the contest when quarterback Christopher Crum scored on a 73 yards sprint. The try for two came up short and the Tigers led 6-0 with 10:50 left in the period.

That lead was short lived as tailback Brett Bradford ran for a 17-yard touchdown just under two minutes later. Bradford ran in the 2-point conversion and CPS had an 8-6 lead with 8:59 to go in the first quarter.

The Gator defense stepped up and forced a punt, giving the ball to the offense near mid-field.

QB J.D. Powell capped the short drive with a 10-yard keeper. Bradford dove in for the 2-point conversion, making it 16-6 with 5:47 left in the frame.

The Tigers drove deep enough on the ensuing drive that when they punted Clarke Prep was forced to start at their own 12-yard line.

From there CPS began their longest drive of the game, taking 12 plays to cover the distance. Taylor Becton got the call, bulling in from 4-yards out. Hunter Mayton converted the point-after touchdown try and the Gator lead was 23-6 with 10:48 to go in the first half.

Following another Taylor Road punt the CPS offense had the ball, this time starting at their own 29-yard line.

After a 33-yard completion to Chad Dickinson and then a 24-yard pass to Becton, Powell kept the ball on a 7-yard keeper.

Mayton's kick was good and the Gators led 30-6 with 5:49 left in the second quarter.

The Tigers fumbled the ensuing kick off and Mark Lear recovered the ball for the Gators at the 34-yard line.

On the second play Powell found a seam and raced 17- yards for the touchdown. Mayton made good on the kick and the rout was on 37-6 with 4:59 left before the break.

An 18-yard punt from Taylor Road gave the Gators the ball near mid-field for their next possession.

Clarke Prep stayed on the ground the entire drive and Randy Nichols capped the drive with a 5-yard run. Lear ran in the 2-point conversion to increase the lead to 45- 6 with 1:48 to go in the second quarter.

The Gator defense gave the ball back to the offense two plays later when Nichols picked off a Tiger pass and returned it 31-yards to the TRA 20-yard line.

On the first play new QB Tanner Tucker hit Nick Pugh with a 20-yard TD pass. Mayton made the kick and Clarke Prep led 53-6 going into halftime.

In the second half CPS had two possession and they scored on both.

The first came on the initial drive of the third quarter when Jason Gates scored on a 5-yard run. Mayton kicked his fifth PAT of the game to increase the lead to 60-6.

Taylor Road answered with a 22-yard TD pass from Crum to Nicholas Sheppard. The attempt was no good, but the Tigers cut into the lead 60-12.

The final nail in the coffin came when Nichols broke free and scored on a 32-yard run. Mayton made it 5-for-5 on kicks and the Gators won the game going away 67-12.

Bradford paced the offense with 106 yards on nine carries and a score. Nichols had 88 yards on seven carries and two TDs. Becton had 72 yards on seven carries with a score. Lear had 48 yards on six carries. Gates had 35 yards on four carries and a TD. Powell ran for 29- yards on three carries but scored on all three touches.

Powell was 4-of-9 passing for 78 yards. Tucker was 1-of-2 passing for 20-yards and a score.

Defensively Nichols led the charge with eight stops and two interceptions. Gates also had eight stops.

The second-ranked Gators take to the road this Friday night when they visit the Senators of Morgan Academy in another region game.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
