Several important dates approaching at CCHS The remainder of the first semester is filled with several important activities like Parenting Day, exams, scholarship deadlines, Red Ribbon Week, leadership workshops, field trips, and a few holidays here or there. Fall testing of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam was Sept. 17-21, and involved 141 students from grades 9-12. The results should be available by Wednesday, Oct. 24. The faculty and administration are looking forward to many students passing and completing the exam, earning the right to graduate. And a big thanks is in order to all of the faculty and staff who helped make the administering of the exam a big success. The next AHSGE test will be administered the week of Dec. 3, so keep studying! Seniors will attend Alabama Southern Community College's Annual College Career and Technology Fair, Friday, Oct. 5. This will give many students the opportunity to visit different booths pertaining to industrial and business careers. Representatives from colleges and businesses will also be on hand to answer any questions students may have. Branches of the U.S. military will also be on campus to educate students about the benefits and the roles of the armed forces. If there are any questions about College Day, please contact CCHS counselor, Brenda McIntyre. Applications are being taken for sophomores interested in attending leadership workshops in the spring and summer. Applications are available for leadership conferences like HOBY, Harding University's National Leadership Forum, ALFA Leadership and others. Go by the counselor's office to pick up the needed forms. There will be no school Oct. 8, due to a Fall Holiday. Nine week exams will be administered Oct. 9 and 10. First and second block exams will be Oct. 9 and third and fourth block exams will be Oct. 10. These exams count 25 percent of the student's final grade. Parenting Day will be Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 1 - 4 in the CCHS gymnasium. This will give parents the opportunity to meet with teachers, pick up report cards, and to win door prizes. School will dismiss at 11:42 that day, and parents are strongly encouraged to come and participate in this annual event. Red Ribbon Week will be Oct. 21- 27. The Red Ribbon Campaign is now the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week. Students will participate in several activities with the purpose of spreading drug and alcohol awareness. Seniors will meet with Balfour representative Lee McDaniel, Oct. 25. During this meeting the seniors will select graduation packets consisting of caps and gowns, invitations, gifts, diplomas, tassels, and other materials.
