Teacher with local connections honored at Atlanta school

Jacquelyn Cox-Pace received Sky Haven's Best 2007 Teacher of the Year award Thursday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. at Sky Haven Elementary School in Atlanta, Ga.

The DeKalb Partners in Education in partnership with DeKalb County School System will honor Mrs. Pace at its 18th Annual Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet, Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. The banquet reception will be at 5:30-7 p.m.

Mrs. Pace was born and raised in St. Paul, Minn. She graduated high school in 1995 and earned a Bachelor's degree from Tuskegee University in the field of elementary education in 2000. She is certified in grades K through 8th grade. She began teaching at Sky Haven Brain Based Theme School in 2001.

Mrs. Pace was influenced to become a teacher from another great teacher, Bettye Cox, her mother, of Thomasville. She comes from a family of educators. She was united in marriage to Charles Pace on June 1, 2006.

She is also the daughter of the late Johnny B. Cox of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Susie Sellers of Coffeeville and the late Elmira Johnson of Jackson.
