The Clarke County High School chapter of the National Beta Club held its annual induction ceremony Thursday, Sept. 13, inducting 17 new members.

The Beta Club is a national organization which provides recognition of those students who excel in academics, leadership abilities, and citizenship. The aim of Beta Club is to prepare individuals for their places in a democratic society.

To be considered for membership in this chapter of the National Beta Club, one must meet several requirements. The requirements for seniors, juniors, and sophomores are that they are advanced diploma students, had no grade below 80 this past spring term, have never had a semester grade or yearly grade below 70, have not been a discipline problem, have high moral character, and have been approved by the faculty and current membership. The only freshmen considered for membership are those who were members in good standing of the Wilson Hall Middle School Junior Beta Club at the end of the second semester last year. To remain a member in good standing requires maintaining the above requirements. Students whose grades fall below the minimum or who become a discipline problem are removed from membership.

Speakers at the induction ceremony included Jake Paul, president; Ellie Wilson, secretary; Eric Smith, treasurer; Jessica Guy, who spoke on behalf of the members of the Beta Club; Jasmine Young, who represented club vice president Nikki Williams; and Kuniko Henderson, who provided the evening's devotional.

The new inductees of the CCHS Beta Club are Hannah Barnes, Duncan Bates, Mensa Knight, Rashad Snell, Courtney Carter, Kaylyn Coston, Kayla Davis, Ashley Foster, Caroline Harvey, Kenya Horn, Jacob Horton, Cierra Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Shelby Mullins, Davis Rhodes, Abbey Walker, and Ericka Williams.

The 2007-2008 sponsors of the Beta Club are Mrs. Joy Thomas and Mrs. Kim Stanley.
