Education retirees to meet

The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet Thursday, (today), Oct. 18 at 11:45 a.m. at the Southern Magnolia Restaruant in Grove Hill. The program will be presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama. All education retirees and support retirees are urged to attend to hear important information about your insurance. Each member has been asked to bring another potential member with them to this meeting.

West fundraiser

Members of the Helwestern Volunteer Fire Department are taking orders for Boston butts and slabs of ribs. Proceeds will benefit cancer patient Jeffery West. The Boston butts are $25 each and the ribs are $17 per slab. They can be picked up Friday, Oct. 19 at the fire station. Contact any member of the Helwestern Volunteer Fire Department to place an order or for more information.

RamCorp to perform

The University of Mobile Drum and Bugle Corp will be performing at Clarke Prep School this Friday, Oct. 19 during school hours and then they will perform at halftime of the Gator's game against Hooper that same night. Everyone is invited to come and hear them perform.

Drive thru flu clinic set

The Clarke County Health Department will be conducting a "drive thru" flu clinic Friday, Oct. 19 from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Grove Hill. This will provide us with an opportunity to exercise our capabilities of vaccinating a large number of people in a short amount of time.

WHHS Class of 1968

The Wilson Hall High School Class of 1968 has moved the date of its 39th year class reunion from Oct. 19-21, 2007 to the following year, (2008) to coincide with its 40th year. A date will soon be announced. Coffeeville Old Timers

Reunion

All former students, teachers, families and friends of Coffeeville High School are invited to attend an "Ole Timers" Reunion to be held at the school on Saturday, Oct. 20. Registration begins at 9 a.m. A covered dish luncheon is planned and everyone is encouraged to attend bring your favorite dish. The graduating Class of 1957 will be honored at this time. Attending will be former students from a wide range of classes and this is a great opportunity to see old friends. temporarily closes

The Grove Hill Public Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Nov. 2 due to renovations on the new wing.

Monroe's History Tour

Monroe County's History Tour presented by the Monroe County Heritage Museums will give a tour Tuesday, Oct. 23 by visiting historic places. See sites not accessible to the public. The tour includes: Burnt Corn, Uriah, Perdue Hill, Claiborne, Franklin, Bell's Landing/Hybart, Vredenburgh and Beatrice. Call Monroe County Heritage Museums to schedule as seating is extremely limited. Cost is $20 per person. Bring a sack lunch. Leave Old Courthouse Museum at 8 a.m. and return at 2 p.m. Reservations must be in by Oct. 19. ATRC to meet

The Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission's Rural Planning Organization will meet with the Clarke County Citizens' Committee Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Thomasville City Hall at 6 p.m. The RPO provides government officials and citizens in member counties an opportunity to advise the ALDOT on road, bridge and other transportation projects. The RPO is a transportation planning process that serves as a formal link between the ALDOT and the local governments. All RPO meetings are open to the public. Fall jewelry sale at hospital

The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will have its fall jewelry sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 and Friday, Oct. 26 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

"Ghost Walk"

The Fourth Annual Kathryn Tucker Windham "Ghost Walk" will be Saturday, Oct. 27 at Clay Park in downtown Thomasville. There will be a costume contest for ages 1 to 12 at 5:30 p.m. with "Ghost Walk" tours beginning at 6, 7, and 8 p.m. Come out and enjoy a fall hayride to historic locations and hear storytellers in period costume tell tales of ghosts, sports lore and Thomasville history or join in the singing of historic old tunes. This event is fall fun for the entire family. It is sponsored by the Arts Council of Thomasville. Tour prices are $15 per family and $5 individually. "Ghost Walk" t-shirts will also be available. West benefit singing

There will be a benefit singing for Jeffery West Saturday, Oct. 27 from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Thomasville High School Cafeteria. Singers will be Glory Road, Dixie Disciples, Larry and Carol Cox, Brandy Beech and more. There will be no admission charge but a love offering will be taken.

McKinley family reunion set

Descendants of James Monroe McKinley will be meeting at the Liberty Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Saturday, Oct. 27. Come early, bring a covered dish and expect to enjoy yourself.

Thomas family reunion

Relatives of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.R. (Billy) Thomas of Lower Peach Tree plan a family reunion Sunday, Oct. 28 at the H. W. Pearce Jr. Memorial Park Assembly House located on Vanity Park Drive in Jackson. Family members and friends will gather around 9:30 a.m. for a spend-the-day of fellowship, fun and food. Society to hear logger's dream

The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Shane Etheredge of Wilcox County. Etheredge is the author of the book, "A Logger's Dream".

Grove Hill Commerce meets

The quarterly meeting of the Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce will be Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 12 noon in the cafeteria at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. The nutrition staff will offer a Dutch treat lunch. "Creating Your Business Web Site" will be the program which will be led by Lyle Osborne. Brunson family reunion

Descendants of Tom and Hessie Brunson will hold a family reunion Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship.

Thanksgiving meals available

Thanksgiving 2007 is almost here! Again this year Mrs. Alice Taylor with a group of volunteers will be remembering the elderly, sick, disabled, shut-ins and homeless of the Coffeeville community. On Saturday, Nov. 10 a Thanksgiving dinner will be served. Alice and those working with her will be serving food from the old Tombigbee Auto Parts building beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Lunches may be picked up or they will be delivered. Peterman Festival set

The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville. The festival is sponsored by the Peterman Historical Society. Booth space at 12' x 12' will be $45 without electricity and $50 with. No admission will be charged.
