Principal's address It is hard to believe that we have ended the first nine weeks of school and we are already into the second nine weeks. Fall is in the air and we are hopeful that cooler days are fast approaching. Our bulletin boards and student work now shows off a spectacle of leaves, pumpkins, scarecrows and fall colors that let us know the season is quickly changing. On September 25, 2007 the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) scores were released. These results, commonly referred to as The Nation's Report Card revealed great progress in Alabama. In the words of Governor Bob Riley and State Supt. of Education, Joseph Morton "Your school helped to make it happen." Just moments after the results were released; I received a phone call from the governor's office, congratulating the students and teachers of Grove Hill Elementary School for their participation in the NAEP test. It was such a delight to receive the news that our fourth grade students, now fifth grade students at Wilson Hall Middle School, led the nation in reading score gains with an improvement of eight points. Our fourth grade teachers are to be commended for the hard work it took to prepare our students for this test. I have since received several phone calls, memos and letters of congratulations for our schools participation in the NAEP test. I continue to believe that GHES is successful because of the awesome support that our teachers, parents and community offer. We work hard each and every day to provide a meaningful and quality curriculum to our students. The results are in… and WE DID IT!! Watch for billboards statewide later in October to further convey Gov. Riley's appreciation.
