Babes finish second area tournament
The Clarke County High School Babes beat Washington County in the first round of the Class 3A, Area 1 tournament and then lost in four games 15-25, 14-25, 25-16 and 23-25 to Mobile Christian to take second place. They Babes now will advance to the regional tournament, likely in Geneva. The top two teams from that tournament advance to the state volleyball tournament in Pelham. Last year Clarke County was able to advance as a 2-seed to make it to the state tournament. "If we could have played each game like we did the last two against Mobile Christian, then we would have been able to win the area," Coach Athena Hubbert said. "Now we have a lot of work to do to get back to the state tournament. But we have the talent to do that." The regional tourney will be this Saturday. Here Nikki Williams taps the ball back over the net against Washington County Monday afternoon.
