The Clarke County High School Bulldogs ran through the Francis Marion Rams 50-0 this past Friday night in Marion, clinching their second straight region title.

The Bulldogs, even though they had their lowest offense yardage output of the season, scored early and often in the road-region contest.

The Rams had the ball first and on the first play from scrimmage Bubba Frazier stepped in front of a pass and returned the interception 18- yards for the Bulldog touchdown. Frazier also ran in the 2- point conversion, giving CCHS an 8-0 lead with 11:42 left in the first period.

Francis Marion was forced to punt the next time they had the ball. Jerome Ivory and Ronnie Osborne tackled the Ram punter at the 25-yard line.

Britt Chapman capped the short drive with a 25-yard sprint for the touchdown. Tyler Walker ran in the 2-point conversion and CCHS had a 16-0 lead with 9:52 left in the first period.

Clarke County perfectly executed an on-side kick following the score as Dwayne Owens recovered the kick.

It took five plays to cover the 50-yard distance with tailback Tim Barnett covering the final 15-yards for the score.

The try for two came up short as CCHS tightened the clamps 22-0 with 8:25 left in the first period.

On the ensuing kickoff a Francis Marion player was injured and the game was delayed 35-minutes while an ambulance was dispatched from Uniontown.

Once play resumed the Bulldogs got the ball back following a Ram punt. And again it took five plays to cover the 55- yard distance. Chapman capped the drive with a 15-yard run. Owens tossed the 2-point conversion pass to Reggie Ivory, making the score 30-0 with :16 seconds left in the first quarter.

Frazier picked off a Ram pass on the final play of the period and returned it 28-yards down to the Francis Marion 2-yard line.

It took three plays before Jerome Ivory powered in from 2-yards out for the Clarke County score. The attempt failed but the Bulldogs led 36-0 with 9:47 left in the first half.

Kenneth Hannon gave the ball back to the offense as he intercepted a Ram pass at the 45-yard line.

Two plays later Barnett sprang free and raced 50-yards to paydirt. Kenneth Kimbrough ran in the 2-point conversion, making the score 44-0 with 4:44 left in the half.

Coleman Stifflemire set up the final Bulldog score as he blocked a Ram punt midway through the third quarter.

Frazier ended the drive and the game's scoring as he ran in from 35-yards out. The attempt failed, but the Bulldogs brought home a 50-0 region win.

Clarke County had 276 yards rushing on 33 carries in the contest. Barnett led all rushers with 76 yards on three carries and two scores. Chapman had 66 yards on three carries with two scores. Freeman Bettis added 26 yards on eight carries.

Mark Lambert led the defensive charge that held Francis Marion to negative yards in the contest with seven tackles. Frazier had a pair of interceptions. Hannon added a pick. Michael Johnson recovered a fumble.

The fourth ranked Bulldogs return this week to host Central-Hayneville. It will be their last regular season home game before they travel to Thomasville for the annual Backyard Brawl with the Tigers.

Game time against Central is 7 p.m. at H.G. Prim Stadium.
