Citizen of Year banquet set

The Citizen of the Year Banquet will be Thursday, (tonight), Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. Tickets to the event are $10 and can be purchased from the Chamber of Commerce, the Clarke County Museum or from Rachel Lindsey at the Clarke County Courthouse. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Library temporarily closes

The Grove Hill Public Library will be closed through Friday, Nov. 2 due to renovations on the new wing.

Brunson family reunion

Descendants of Tom and Hessie Brunson will hold a family reunion Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship.

C'ville RSVP

plans holiday dinner

The Coffeeville RSVP will meet at the Nutrition Center Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. Charles Dixon will present a program on fire safety. Plans will also be completed for the holiday dinner to be held in December.

Small business

workshop set

The University of West Alabama Small Business Development Center will sponsor a small business workshop Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Kimbell House in Jackson. Topics to be covered: The Reason to go into Business, The Ways of Entering into Business, The Purpose and Components of a Business Plan and How to Secure Funding. HIV group meeting

The Public Health Area 9 HIV Prevention Community Network Group will have its monthly meeting Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Monroe County Health Department. Anyone wishing to contribute to stopping the spread of HIV is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

Pioneer Day set

The Clarke County Museum's Eighth Annual Pioneer Day is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill. Among the featured demonstrations are rope making, shingle splitting, candle dipping, flintknapping, corn shelling, chair caning, campfire cooking, cross-cut sawing, corn shelling, rug hooking, quilting, clothes washing, and butter churning. The restored Mathews Cabin will be open for visitors and costumed re-enactors will be on hand to greet guests. Creek Indian Blue Heron will set up his 1800s hunting camp and Creek War soldiers will host a frontier encampment. There will be live music and storytelling throughout the day. Thanksgiving

meals available

Thanksgiving 2007 is almost here! Again this year Mrs. Alice Taylor with a group of volunteers will be remembering the elderly, sick, disabled, shut-ins and homeless of the Coffeeville community. On Saturday, Nov. 10 a Thanksgiving dinner will be served. Alice and those working with her will be serving food from the old Tombigbee Auto Parts building beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Lunches may be picked up or they will be delivered. Rikard's Mill

The restored sugar cane mill at Rikard's Mill Historical Park will once again produce cane syrup Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. The syrup making demonstration will begin when "Mac" the mule is harnessed to the cane mill, which grinds the sugar cane into juice. Visitors can then stay and tour the 1845 water-powered grist mill, stock up on cornmeal and grits and enjoy fresh biscuits with syrup as an afternoon treat. For lunch, local south Alabama barbeque will be available from Clark's Barbeque of Monroeville. Rikard's Mill is located 22 miles north of Monroeville, just north of Beatrice off of Highway 265. GHMHA Golf tournament

Peterman Festival set

The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville. The festival is sponsored by the Peterman Historical Society. Booth space at 12' x 12' will be $45 without electricity and $50 with. No admission will be charged. Fulton Christmas parade set

The Dickinson and Fulton Unity II Community Organization will once again sponsor a Christmas parade Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. The parade will line up at 1 p.m. at the Spencer Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fulton and go through downtown. Entry fee will be $5. The theme will be An All Occasion Christmas (it's your choice). Grove Hill Christmas parade

Grove Hill's annual Christmas parade will be Thursday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. Line up will be at 3:15 p.m. on Church Street in front of Clarke County High School. The theme for this year's parade is "Christmas Is". If you plan to participate in the parade, please register with the Chamber of Commerce by calling 251-275-4188 or e-mail at grovehillcoc@tds.net.
